Description

French author Jean Villemin's illustrated story, "A True Story of a Rag Doll Named Mayranoush," narrates Mayranoush's journey through the Ottoman Empire during the events of the Armenian Genocide in 1915. An Armenian girl, fleeing with her family from Western Armenia to escape the Armenian Genocide perpetrated by Ottoman Turks, inadvertently drops her cherished Mayranoush doll. The narrative unfolds through the eyes of Azad the cat, a witness to Mayranoush's plight, as he too struggles for survival.

Inspired by a visit to Armenia in 2018 and deeply moved by the exhibits at the Armenian Genocide Museum, Jean Villemin saw his novel as a vehicle to raise awareness about this tragic chapter of Armenian history.
